An interesting fact is that they not occasionally used Shaffhausen in the company's name.

Collectors called it a great watch town and even now while representing new mechanisms IWC craftsmen prefer acting on behalf of all watch makers of Shaffhausen.

In 30-es IWC created watches that have made the brand recognizable. Portuguese seamen ordered wrist watches with sea chronometer's accuracy. They got the first Portuguese of the unusual for that time diameter 74 mm, a very male watch with a kind of severe look. The company constantly renews its Portuguese line.

But one of the most famous IWC mechanisms line is models for pilots. IWC created an "aviation"watch series in 1940. All watches were based on well known mechanism for pocket watches and got a big size from them – 55 cm in diameter and a heavy weight equal to 183 g.
