Michael Schumacher Takes Part in America's Cup

Michael Schumacher became the 18th Man on board the Emirates Team New Zealand boat in the most recent America's Cup races held in Valencia on May 2. The ETNZ team gained victory over Italian +39 Challenge.

Omega, official watch partner of the ETNZ team, invited Schumacher to take part in the race. The former Formula 1 world champion even held the boat's wheel at the stage when the team was heading towards the start of their Louis Vuitton Round-Robin race. Michael Schumacher appreciated his participation in the race as 'a unique experience'.

The champion mentioned that the world of Formula 1 and sailing shared a lot in common. The same as in Formula 1, a lot of people were working behind the scenes. Schumacher was particularly inspired by the team spirit that prevailed during the race.

Schumacher also added that he became greatly interested in the America's Cup and followed the races since the time he settled not far from Geneva. The Alinghi team of Switzerland won the race last time, having attracted a great deal of public attention. The champion had a unique chance to see inside the event – no doubt it was much more exciting than just watching the sailing broadcast by TV channels.

Speaking about his own plans for future, Michael Schumacher wants to maintain links with Formula 1. The racer is going to keep his consultancy base with Ferrari. He has also planned to go to the Barcelona Grand Prix to witness the team's work in live perspective. The champion enjoys karting and playing soccer. he spends a lot of time with his family and enjoys life in general.
