IWC Da Vinci – Three Original Reinterpretations

At this year's SIHH IWC presented to the horology world reinterpretation of its iconic Da Vinci collection. The company's watchmakers updated Da Vinci's style and incorporated complications that are worth the name of the collection's inventor.

The new versions of the Da Vinci Chronograph is housed in a tonneau-shaped case equipped with a new IWC patented chronograph movement. The Limited Edition Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar honors the name of Kurt Klaus, IWC Chief Designer, the inventor of the first Da Vinci perpetual calendar. The brand has also developed a three hand automatic model of the Da Vinci.

The first timepieces to enter the IWC Da Vinci collection appeared in the 1980s. The initial Da Vinci models were used as the base for the new Da Vinci watches. Today the Da Vinci watch family hold a notable position among the IWC watch spectrum. The case of the first Da Vinci model was round-shaped. Now the brand's designers added the tonneau-shaped three-part case, having given the IWC Da Vinci an absolutely new direction.

The new Da Vinci Chronograph reveals a display of the chronograph minutes and seconds in a sub-dial found at 12 o'clock. It may be compared to a second time zone for reading the elapsed time, as a unique but simple and intuitive way. IWC offers the choice between a rose gold, white gold, or stainless steel model as well as a limited edition of 500 platinum watches.


The original Da Vinci watch with a perpetual calendar was released back in 1985 and stirred the imagination of watch experts and connoisseurs. The new limited edition version of the watch features the perpetual calendar in the tonneau-shaped case. The new Limited Edition Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar will be available in a series of 600 pieces: 500 rose gold models, 50 white gold and 50platinum ones. The dial of the timepiece sports Kurt Klaus' signature, while its case-back reveals an engraving of him.

The new three hand automatic Da Vinci has been developed in white gold, rose gold, and stainless steel version. With case measuring 35.6 mm in diameter, the size of the timepiece makes it suitable for more wearers.
