IWC Schaffhausen and David de Rothschild: Let's Make the World Better

The luxury watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has recently built a partnership with David de Rothschild, an adventurer and environmentalist. The partnership has become one more step taken by the brand towards broadening its ambitious goals to the global level.

Besides adventurous expeditions, David de Rothschild is actively involved in education and art programs relevant to global sustainability issues. The adventurer undertakes courageous expeditions to the most dangerous and environmentally challenged regions in the world. His aim is to attract more attention of the world's media.

Provided with the support of IWC Schaffhausen, de Rothschild traveled to Ecuador in April 2007. The region has been suffering from the wastewater from oil extraction that has been piped into the rain-forest. The traveler managed to come in close contact with the industry whose toxins have become the reason of one of the most dangerous environmental disasters of the present-day.

Next year, enlisted with the support of the company, David de Rothschild is going to undertake the Plastiki Expedition to the astern Garbage Patch, a region of the Pacific Ocean with immense accumulations of plastic refuse driven together. The traveler also plans other expeditions, with Madagascar and Lake Baikal also on the list.

David De Rothschild has given to his environmental crusade the brand name 'Adventure Ecology.' His project has become the leading one in education for sustainable development. David has built an online educational platform that transforms the process of learning into a real adventure. The site provides knowledge as the best source of inspiration for the young members of the community to be aware and understand the environmental challenges.

Adventure Ecology offers everyone interested the education and arts program. The project also comprises the ARTiculate series, inviting talented artists and important people from the creative world on field expeditions. The artists then reflect in their work what they've seen in the most fragile regions of the world.

The first ARTiculate series mission was an expedition to Ecuador. Artist Gabriel Orozco, photographers Oliver Chanarin and Adam Broomberg, and film-maker Dustin Lynn joined the expedition. Large-format pictures titled 'Ecuador: Block 16' were displayed at the Frieze Art Fair held in London, October 9-14, 2007.

IWC Schaffhausen shares the traveler's commitment of sustainability, maintaining a strong social and ecological policy. The company has become certified as a climate-neutral business, and provides active support to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. The Foundation represents a global organization that works upon opening new prospects in life for underprivileged children.
